SOLAR CAR NUNA 12 BY BRUNEL SOLAR TEAM POWERED BY GEM MOTORS
28th October, 2024
We are proud to be a partner of Brunel Solar team, one of the most renowned solar teams in the world, supporting them in promoting sustainability through innovation. A team of highly motivated students from DELF University with various technical backgrounds, from aerospace engineering to computer science, is a holder of a world record and eleven other victories in sixteen challenges.
Their last innovation is Nuna 12, a lighter, narrower, and faster solar car. Nuna 12s hit the road this September in the Sasol Solar Challenge in South Africa, driving more than 4,000 kilometres purely on the power of the sun. The goal of this challenge was to drive the most kilometres in eight days.
Nuna 12 is the lightest solar car ever built by the team. The new battery, equipped with the latest Li-Ion pouch cells, fits precisely into the pointed nose. Solar cells have been layered on top of each other to make the car even smaller without sacrificing efficiency. And the new steering system makes the solar car even more stable and reliable. The team of engineers from GEM motors, that collaborated on the project, help to developed and built a completely new dual rotor direct motor, designed specifically for Nuna 12, making the car even more efficient.
Team from GEM motors was proud to share their knowledge in the field of advanced and highly efficient electric drives and happy to join forces with talented and extremely bright students. We look forward to cheer for Nuna 12 and the team from DELF University at their next challenges.
